Experts in Signal Design
TCN staff have completed numerous traffic signal design projects. These have included such elements as signal progression, emergency vehicle preemption, safety needs, efficiency considerations and capacity for future traffic flows. Projects have included a wide range of system types, from single isolated intersections to actuated-coordinated distributed closed loop master controlled systems with central monitoring. TCN staff have excellent signal system industry contacts that give the firm technical advantage in solving any traffic existing signal related problems, or designing system enhancements.

Planning and Design
Traffic signal projects require gathering of detailed existing conditions such as pavement width, intersection geometrics, sight distance, utilities (both above and below ground), interconnect needs and detection requirements. Other issues such as approach speed and traffic accident history are also gathered. TCN staff then utilize this data in the design of the signal system to include head layout, phasing diagrams, wiring diagrams, pole and foundation designs, detection system designs and controller location and type. Specifications and construction cost estimates are then developed.

Interconnect and Street Lighting
Design services are available for interconnect systems such as hard wired, fiberoptics, spread spectrum radio and microwave. The firm also designs roadway and intersection lighting systems. Computer software is utilized to calculate illumination intensities and uniformity ratios required for illumination design.
